This is a list of services that should be helpful to you in lowering your energy costs and building a sustainable Earth.

 

Pennsylvania residents are eligible for up to $35,000 in low-interest loans for whole house improvement through Keystone Help with a Certified Energy Audit.

The Building Performance Institute (BPI) develops standards for home energy auditing and trains and certifies Building Analysts and other in that field.  BPI is  concerned primarily with existing homes and puts significant emphasis on air quality and occupant safety.

The Residential Energy Services NETwork (RESNET) has developed standards for energy efficiency in new homes and for renovations and additions.  The Home Energy Rating System (HERS) index is a RESNET method recognized by Energy Star and many mortgage organizations for Energy Efficient Mortgages (EEM).

ENERGY STAR is a government-backed program helping businesses and individuals protect the environment through superior energy efficiency.  Energy Star has an excellent summary of Federal tax credits and the forms needed to take advantage of those programs.

PA Home Energy is a non-profit underwritten by West Penn Power.  PAHE works with Energy Star, BPI and RESNET to help Pennsylvania residents reduce their power usage.

The nonprofit Tax Incentives Assistance Project explains incentive programs and has many federal tax forms.

The US Green Building Council is a non-profit that works with energy service providers and contractors toward creating a sustainable world that we can be proud to leave for future generations. It is a good source for green living literature.

The State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists regulates the practice, licensure and registration of engineers, land surveyors and geologists in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in order to safeguard life, health and property and promote the general welfare.

Efficiency First is a national nonprofit trade association that unites the Home Performance workforce, building product manufacturers and related businesses and organizations in the escalating fight against global warming and rising energy costs. Efficiency First represents its members in public policy discussions at the state and national levels to promote the benefits of efficiency retrofitting.

A good source of information for infrared technologies and how they are used in energy auditing and other things is Snell Infrared.

The American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is the granddaddy of most of the science and standards used in the industry today.

Furnace Compare is a good source of information for boilers, furnaces and central air conditioners for those in the market to replace these items.
